Obedience

A trained dog is a happy dog and a pleasure to own. Because it understands and can be relied upon to follow the rules, it is able to take a full and active part in the domestic life of its family.

On a visit to the clubs field on any Sunday morning you will find dogs of all breeds and their owners taking part in obedience classes. These classes range from those where basic pet obedience exercises are taught, to more advanced levels which enable those who are interested, to take part in competitions. A number of our club members do compete very successfully at shows up and down the country.

Each class has a set of exercises to be trained. When owners and dogs become proficient at these they move on to the next class where the same exercises are extended and new ones introduced. Some of these exercises relate directly to every day situations while others are exercises in control, or just for fun. Together they give owners an opportunity to gain control over their dogs and for both to enjoy themselves at the same time.

Most of our trainers have the same basic way of training, but all of them know of more than one way to solve a problem. They are all experienced and will help you as much as possible. They give their time free and want to help you in the same way they were once helped.

We will do our best to help you train your dog. It will require consistency and persistence on your part, and not a little patience, but we hope you will also find it an experience where the bond between you and your dog deepens as you both enjoy a mutually pleasurable and rewarding partnership, but one where you are in control.

Obedience classes are held on Sunday 10.30 - 12.00.

Puppy class is limited to ensure sufficient help can be given to individuals. In order to be added to this list membership must be paid and vaccines shown prior to the start date.

For class two and 3 members there is additional training held during the lighter evenings on a Tuesday evening between 19.00pm - 20.00pm. This will recommence on Tuesday, 16th April 2019. Please put your name on the list in the club hut.
